BOSPO is an independent, multi-ethnic non-governmental organization. It was founded in 1995 by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). Since that time, BOSPO has provided educational, psychosocial, economic, and information-legal aid to citizens in BiH and abroad. BOSPO's activities have included the development and promotion of public advocacy concepts and manuals, the publications of information newsletters and the provision of training and support to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and community groups. BOSPO has also initiated a micro-program designed to help low-income women to become entrepreneurs, it has provided psychosocial and educational support for displaced women and children and has managed thirteen Information-Legal Centers throughout BiH. In the past eight years, BOSPO has played an important role as an incubator for the development of new-to-come non-governmental organizations. In accordance with a new law regarding micro-credit institutions, BOSPO has registered its very successful micro-credit program as an independent organization “ MI-BOSPO ”. BOSPO has also turned over the administration of its thirteen Information-Legal Centers to an international organization that received financial benefits by hiring local staff. Both of these projects continue to function successfully today. BOSPO's staff is experienced, skilled, and professionally oriented. Internal, organizational, and leadership procedures are well established. BOSPO has hosted US Peace Corps, Freedom House and Canadian International Development Agency volunteers in order to increase its staff expertise. BOSPO strives to provide timely and effective support to its clients through its trainings, consultations, and other services. BOSPO's efforts are focused on increasing transparency and visibility in communities, particularly within government agencies, NGOs and citizens' initiatives located in BiH and north-eastern Europe . In the following period, BOSPO will continue to promote advocacy concepts. BOSPO's activities will thus contribute to the creation of a society wherein citizen initiatives and NGOs play an important role in creating local, regional and national policies. BOSPO will also focus its activities on further developing its Resource Centre. This center is designed to support citizen groups and NGOs in their work toward building a stronger civil society sector.
